Automation

Whatever your journey into manufacturing automation looks like, there will come a point when you need to decide between using a consultant or directly approaching manufacturers yourself – so how do you decide between these two approaches?

Three reasons to use consulting services

If you’re unsure whether it’s worth bringing in a consultant to help you automate your manufacturing processes, then consider the following before you make your decision.

1. Consultants have a wealth of experience

While the manufacturers you approach may know a lot about their own products, a consultant has a breadth of knowledge that cuts across the whole market. What’s more, their experience of implementing automation solutions in businesses of all kinds has afforded them a global view – they know what works, and crucially, what doesn’t work.

2. They take an unbiased view of your problem

When you bring in a consultant you can be certain that they have no interest in selling you one piece of kit over another. They are there to find a solution that perfectly fits your business, and that starts with taking an in-depth view of the problem. The founder of PALpack and design engineering consultant, Dave Wood, explains in his own words:

“I will only recommend machines that are ideal for my client’s projects. I focus totally on the solution and will work tirelessly to ensure a perfect outcome.”

3. They can be with you from beginning to end

The brief you give your consultant will ultimately dictate how involved they are, but it is possible to hand over a big chunk of the work to them, freeing you up to do other things. Their experience, knowledge and training can add value at every stage of the process, from developing a strategy to bespoke design, procurement, and installation.

A bit more about PALpack’s founder

Dave Wood started PALpack in 2018, but his experience in manufacturing automation dates back much further. He started his journey as a mechanical engineering apprentice before going on to complete his HND and eventually qualifying as a design engineer.

In 2000, he started his own business designing palletising systems, and later when he’d cemented his reputation as an expert in automated packaging, he established PALpack.

As well as overseeing this business, Dave is also using his industry experience to help other businesses to implement strategies that improve their production and workflow.

His goal is to help manufacturers increase efficiencies and reduce costs.

“What I like about Dave is that he’s not a salesman but someone who has designed and built machines and has a wealth of experience in this field. He won’t push something on you if it’s not right for your business.

“I would thoroughly recommend Dave and PALpack to anyone looking for some automatic palletisation on their production lines especially if like us you are worried about being abandoned due to your remote location.”
